Usually, no. The Niki Newd routine is built around one thorough evening cleanse, allowing the skin to remain undisturbed the following morning.

Skin is far from inactive while we sleep. Its barrier follows a circadian rhythm: skin permeability, surface pH, water loss and epidermal activity all change throughout the 24-hour cycle, while processes involved in epidermal renewal and barrier maintenance remain active during the night and early morning.

After an evening cleanse, the skin has hours to re-establish its surface environment. Washing again in the morning simply starts another cleansing cycle, and even water alone can temporarily raise the skin’s naturally acidic surface pH.

One exception is heavy air pollution. If you live or sleep in a highly polluted environment, a gentle morning cleanse can help remove particles and metal-containing pollution that may have settled on the skin overnight.

For sensitive or easily reactive skin, a good rule is to keep cleansing as simple as possible and avoid unnecessary ingredients that can increase the risk of irritation — particularly added fragrance. Some preservatives can also trigger reactions in susceptible skin, although they are essential for safety in many water-based cosmetics.

Oatmeal Soap is formulated without added fragrance, preservatives or fillers. Its warm, naturally oat-and-linseed aroma comes entirely from the ingredients themselves.

The formula is built from rapeseed oil, coconut oil, Finnish oatmeal, cold-pressed linseed oil, spring water and artisan yeast. Rather than adding a long list of isolated ingredients, the focus is on a small number of carefully selected whole ingredients that cleanse effectively while keeping the formulation intentionally simple.

Traditional soap is naturally alkaline — it is part of the chemistry of true soap. But pH alone does not determine how gentle or drying a cleanser will be.

Research shows that even a cleanser formulated to match the skin’s natural pH is not automatically gentle. The cleansing agents, their concentrations and the overall formulation all influence how a product interacts with the skin.

The skin also has its own mechanisms for maintaining its naturally acidic surface pH. After cleansing, the skin begins to return towards its natural pH level, with the rate of recovery depending on both the skin and the cleanser used.

Oatmeal Soap has been specifically developed for gentle facial cleansing, including sensitive skin. Its oils and other ingredients are carefully selected and balanced not simply to cleanse, but to support the skin in multiple ways. The formula is superfatted, and every batch is cured for at least three months.

For us, gentle cleansing is therefore about the whole formulation — not a single pH number.

With daily evening use, one Oatmeal Soap bar is designed to last approximately two months when it is allowed to dry properly between uses.

Water is what makes a soap bar soften and wear away faster, so storage matters almost as much as how often you cleanse. After each use, place the bar somewhere air can circulate (top of the brush) and excess moisture can escape rather than leaving it sitting in pooled water.

CO-FOUNDER'S note

The Oatmeal Soap recipe was developed nearly two decades ago. From the very beginning, our goal was clear: to create a cleansing product without compromise — one that purifies the skin without irritation or dryness. We chose solid soap for its simplicity, clean ingredients, and natural lather — and the result exceeded all expectations.

I have personally used this wonderful product daily on my face (and body) for almost 20 years, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.

At first, the soap traveled with me in a small pouch on my trips, until after a long search, we found the ultimate soap case. A fully biodegradable, eco-friendly alternative to plastic — and best of all, locally made.

If only I had had this soap and travel case back in my modeling days, I would have saved myself from endless surface dryness and been able to minimize everything I had to carry!
