Have you ever picked up a skincare product and wondered: who actually made this, and why? In an industry where mass production is the norm and sustainability has become a marketing buzzword, those questions deserve honest answers.
At Niki Newd, we don’t follow trends. We set a different standard altogether. We are a niche, pioneer skincare brand rooted in Finnish craftsmanship, and everything we make is exactly that—made by us, from scratch, with purpose.
Fresh handmade cosmetics are not a concept we use lightly. They describe our every product, our every choice, and our every value. This is that story.
Most skincare is formulated for shelf life. Products are produced in enormous batches, stabilized with preservatives, and stored in warehouses for months before they reach you. By the time they do, whatever was ‘active’ has often long since faded.
Fresh handmade cosmetics work differently. When batches are small and production is continuous, ingredients stay potent. When every product is made by human hands rather than automated machinery, quality is felt in every jar and bottle. There is no hiding mediocrity behind a label.
This is precisely why Niki Newd manufactures in small batches and ships directly from our laboratory in Finland. No middlemen, no warehousing, no compromise. Every product arrives as fresh as the day it was made.
For us, sustainable skincare begins long before a product is bottled—it begins at the source of each ingredient.
We choose locally wherever possible. More than 50% of our ingredients come from Finland, and every single one is fully traceable back to its farm or producer. We know where our ingredients grow, who tends to them, and how they are handled before reaching us.
We insist on food-grade, edible-quality ingredients rather than cosmetic-grade ones. This distinction matters more than most people realise:
The sustainability conversation in beauty has matured significantly. It is no longer enough to claim a product is ‘natural’ or to feature a leaf on the packaging. Today, genuinely sustainable skincare ingredients should demonstrate:
At Niki Newd, these are not aspirations—they are baseline requirements.
One of the defining decisions we made when founding Niki Newd was to keep everything under one roof. Every product is developed, manufactured, packaged, and shipped from our own laboratory. This is unusual, especially for a brand of our size. Most companies outsource production to contract manufacturers the moment it becomes economically convenient.
We chose differently, and deliberately.
Every Niki Newd formula is developed in-house through years of research and experimentation. We do not buy pre-made bases or adapt existing formulas. We do not use the same stock solution that ten other brands sell under a different name.
Our recipes are ours. They reflect a deep understanding of natural ingredients, how they interact, and how to coax the best from them. Like a chef who insists on cooking from raw ingredients, we start from scratch—because we believe that is the only way to create something genuinely distinctive and effective. Even our soaps are made without pre-made bases.
‘Handmade’ is a word that gets used loosely in the beauty industry. For us it is literal: our products are produced by hand, in small batches, using gentle methods specifically designed to preserve delicate nutrients. Each product is then stickered, stamped, and packaged by hand before leaving our laboratory.
This approach is slower. It is more labour-intensive. And it is absolutely worth it—because it means every product you receive has been touched, checked, and cared for by a real person.
Sustainability nowadays is a systemic question, not just a packaging one. It asks how a brand operates at every level: ingredient sourcing, production energy, supply chain length, product longevity, and what happens after a product is used.
At Niki Newd, we approach sustainability as pioneers—not followers. Rather than adapting our practices to meet industry standards, we built those practices into the foundation of the brand. Here is what that looks like in practice:
We keep our supply chain radically short. Local ingredients, in-house production, direct-to-customer shipping. No extra transport legs, no extended storage windows, no loss of product quality along the way. Shorter supply chains mean lower emissions, less spoilage, and a product that genuinely arrives in the condition it was made.
There are also dimensions of sustainability that the beauty industry has historically underplayed, and that we take seriously:
Our packaging philosophy is simple: light, secure, beautiful, and responsible.
We ship directly in delivery boxes without unnecessary layers of cardboard or plastic wrapping. All our materials are fully recyclable. For product containers, we use 100% recyclable options—most notably our biophotonic glass jars and bottles. This unique glass filters light to protect the vitality of natural ingredients, keeping products fresher for longer and significantly reducing waste from spoiled product.
Our domestic deliveries in Finland are carried by 100% carbon-neutral Posti. International deliveries are shipped via carbon-neutral services.
The result:
Niki Newd has been awarded the Design from Finland mark. This recognition is granted for genuine Finnish design excellence and stands for full transparency across the entire product life cycle. It highlights our commitment to quality, usability, and sustainability.
We are proud of these awards not as trophies, but as confirmation that the standards we hold ourselves to are recognised externally. When you choose a product with the Design from Finland mark, you are making a responsible and sustainable shopping decision backed by independent evaluation.

Every product is formulated and made by hand in our own laboratory in Finland, using original recipes and food-grade ingredients. We manufacture in small batches and ship directly to customers, so nothing sits in a warehouse losing potency. There are no pre-made bases, no outsourced production, and no compromises—just real craftsmanship from start to finish.
Sustainability at Niki Newd is structural, not cosmetic. We source over 50% of our ingredients from Finnish farms with full traceability. We use biophotonic glass that extends product shelf life and reduces waste. We ship carbon-neutrally. We keep our supply chain short to minimize transport emissions. And we formulate with food-grade, biodegradable ingredients—because what touches your skin eventually touches the planet too.
Sensitive skin responds poorly to synthetic preservatives, artificial fragrances, and chemically processed ingredients—all of which are common in mass-produced skincare. Fresh handmade formulations using pure, minimally processed ingredients give sensitive skin exactly what it needs: clean, effective actives without the unnecessary extras that trigger reactions.
Look for full transparency: where are products made, by whom, in what batch sizes, and from what ingredients? A genuine artisan brand can answer these questions clearly. Signs of authenticity include in-house production, original formulations, traceable ingredients, and independent recognition such as the Design from Finland mark. Be wary of brands that use the word ‘handmade’ as a label rather than a description
Yes—we have been awarded the Design from Finland mark twice, recognizing genuine Finnish design excellence and our commitment to quality, sustainability, and transparency throughout the entire product lifecycle.
